The cost for pediatric cardiac surgery, in hospitals around the world where this type of surgery is available, is between $38,000 to $65,000 per operation. The cost to the Save a Child’s Heart program is $10,000 per operation. These operations are performed at the Wolfson Medical Center by doctors, nurses and technicians who volunteer their time and receive no remuneration from SACH for their work and efforts on the Save a Child Heart patients. The $10,000 covers the cost of bringing the child to Israel, hospital consumables and care of the children before and after the operation at the SACH home.

Since the program is presently approaching 250 operations per year rate, $2,500,000 is required annually in order to pay for these life saving operations. It is the aim of the endowment fund to raise the funds for the annual surgical costs of the program and to accumulate $40,000,000 so the money for the operations will always be available from the interest derived from this money.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) causes the death of thousands of children in developing countries each year. Eight out of every 1,000 live births around the world have some form of CHD. The incidence of pediatric cardiac disease from infectious diseases like rheumatic fever is even greater. Most third world countries lack the funds and infrastructure to treat these children and millions face certain death without proper treatment.

Dr. Cohen’s foresight in training doctors and nurses is the reason the program continues to function and grow. Dr. Lior Sasson, who was trained by Dr. Cohen, is the new lead surgeon and has now operated on more than 1,550 children.

There are millions of children in the third world who suffer from heart defects and who will be the future patients of the Save A Child’s Heart Program. We intend to be there to treat them.

The Save a Child’s Heart Endowment Fund has established three programs for raising funds:

1. General Solicitations
Once a year, SACHEF contacts the list of its supporters to request donations. Requests are sent via mail to the list of generous supporters who make up a major part of the funding.

2. "Children Saving Children"
This program is designed for schools, clubs and family occasions where children are taught to share their good fortune with children in need. Schools may support an activity to raise funds for the children in need of heart operations.

Should you wish to participate in this program please contact us by email: SACHEFInfo@SACHEF.org , or by phone (301) 593-5763.

3. Confirmation and Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program
This program is for young adults that have reached confirmation or Bar/Bat Mitzvah age, and wish to share the joy of their celebrations with poor indigent children who require life saving heart surgery to save them from an early and painful death. The celebrants share the gifts they receive for the occasion by contributing part of their gift money to the Save a Child's Heart Endowment Fund. These contributions will be added to other contributions to make up the $10,000 required for the surgery. The contributor will receive a certificate acknowledging the Save a Child's Heart Endowment Fund's sincere gratitude for the contribution.

Please use the contribute button at the bottom of this page to make your contribution.

4. "The Circle of Life"
The Circle of Life program allows an individual or group of donors to save one heart at a time by contributing the $10,000 needed to perform one complete life-saving operation. When the individual or group of individuals contributes the money required to save a child, a special plaque with the picture of the child and information about the child will be sent to the individual or individuals that contributed the money to pay for the child’s operation.

To join the "Circle of Life", please use the contribute button at the bottom of this page.
